- The group is open to people
of all faiths and none, and of all political parties and none.
- We seek to explore the
alternatives to war, and to inform ourselves and others about them.
- We want to further the cause
of peace by peaceful means.
- We strive for justice and
opportunities for all, so that hatred and violence will not have a
chance to grow.
- We aim to support those whom
war has harmed so that they may share in the benefits of peace.
- Our adopted charity is
Adopt-A-Minefield. Please visit: www.landmines.org.uk
On the 4th Tuesday of every month we have an open meeting which is
devoted to a particular subject, usually with a speaker or a video and
always with a discussion. It is held at the Minster Rooms (across the
entrance to the Minster Church) in Ilminster, at 7.30 pm, entry
£2.- if you can afford it.
We have a Israel/Palestine subgroup, which supports Israel and
Palestinian peace groups and educates themselves on this complex
subject. For details please contact 01460 30228 or
heronho@aol.com.
On the Saturday after our monthly meeting we hold
a Silent Vigil from 11 till noon. The place varies, see our programme.
The aim of the vigils is to express our sorrow about the suffering
caused by war; to make sure that the victims are not forgotten; and to
remind ourselves and others that we should do everything in our power
to solve conflicts without resort to violence. Please join us if you
like.
